Animal Cruelty Sentencing - 'Animals deserve justice' campaign

I appreciate the many emails I have received about animal cruelty sentencing.

I understand your concerns on this issue and I agree that there is no place in this country for animal cruelty. I want to make sure that those who abuse animals are met with the full force of the law.

TV Licence fee for those over 75

A number of constituents have contacted me about the future of the TV licence fee for pensioners over 75 years of age.

The BBC’s decision to stop funding free TV licences for all over 75s from June 2020 is very disappointing.

f40 Campaign Group Letter to the Chancellor

Along with colleagues from all sides of the House, I was pleased to add my name to this letter to the Chancellor calling for fairer funding for our schools. The f40 group represents 42 English local authorities, including Central Bedfordshire Council, with historically low funding for education.

Net zero emissions and climate change

In May, the independent Committee on Climate Change recommended that the UK commit to net zero emissions by 2050. After careful consideration, the Government will start the legislative process for a net zero greenhouse gas emissions target today.

I have been contacted by constituents about live animal exports for both slaughter and fattening, and appreciate the concerns that have been raised.
