Yesterday’s vote on the Conservative Party leadership was important, but a distraction from the main point.
I am pleased that the Prime Minister secured the confidence of the Conservative Party. But as she said in responding last night at Downing Street, her first instinct is for the country, and how to get an appropriate arrangement for all in terms of Brexit while ensuring the country’s other issues are at the forefront of Government.
I expect that she will come back from the European Summit this weekend and make a Statement to the Commons on Monday. I hope there will be an early chance to vote on the Withdrawal Agreement, so that the country can move on to implementation and the certainty that many require for their daily business and livelihoods.
I will continue to provide further updates as circumstances require, and remain grateful to the many constituents who offer me their views on this vital issue.
