Housing and Planning

I know the issue of housing and planning is very important to many constituents; particularly those who are keen to protect the rural nature of our towns and villages.

For too long, we simply have not built enough homes. The Government has made a start on turning this around, and it is important that local councils and local residents should be at the heart of the planning system. I want all areas to be covered by an up-to-date local plan to set out local planning priorities, identify how land is used, determining what should be built where. Local peoples' views are vital in shaping these plans and both Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire Councils are in the process of agreeing their local plans.

These plans, once adopted, will ensure we are building the right homes, in the right places, and properly planned to ensure they are supported by the necessary infrastructure. I will ensure concerns raised by local Councillors and constituents are represented at Government level and that North East Bedfordshire receives the support it needs to achieve its house building programme.
