6-5-2008 14:42:03
North East Bedfordshire MP Alistair Burt has responded angrily to a government response to the concerns he has raised over scrap metal thefts, which have seen a significant rise in the region and throughout the country in the last year. Mr Burt had raised the matter in the Commons during debate, and wrote to ask Ministers what they were doing to counter the scrap metal thefts, which have seen church roofs, farm materials and even underground telephone cables stolen in his constituency.

Alistair completes London Marathon
14-4-2008 08:08:41
Alistair ran his ninth London Marathon on Sunday April 13th, raising funds for the Sue Ryder St Johns Hospice in Moggerhanger. He completed the race in 4 hours and 39 minutes - his best time for a decade. The temperature was much cooler than 2007, and heavy rain and hailstones were part of the mixed bag of weather that affected the race. Alistair's fund raising page is still open at www.justgiving.com/alistairburt1 so you still have time to contribute to St Johns!

Alistair visits 134 (Bedford) Squadron - Air Cadets
12-4-2008 08:12:24
Alistair spent a recent evening with 134 (Bedford) Squadron - Air Cadets at the RAF Shortstown base. Alistair Burt MP said of the evening "I am very impressed by what I’ve seen, not only is this a successful squadron in terms of its reputation in the Central & East Region, but the atmosphere of friendship and commitment is immediately apparent to a visitor. I think the public should appreciate just how much we owe to those adults who work with these youngsters and help them mature into the sort of people who will make a tremendous difference to society. The range of activities available is considerable and I would encourage any youngster to join but also to particularly encourage any adult to think about volunteering to support such able young people.”

June 2007 Comet
New Bigglewade edition of The Comet
‘I am pleased to note this new edition of the Comet, serving my constituency with a particular emphasis on Biggleswade and surrounding district, and I wish it well. As the principal town in my very spread out and varied constituency of North East Bedfordshire, Biggleswade is very important to me. Like an increasing number of residents I am a relative newcomer to the County, now having been here for nearly a decade. Biggleswade has always struck me as a fine blend of the old and new, as those who can trace their ancestry back proudly over the generations have been particularly welcoming to those families seeking to make a new home. They have built a fine community, and it is easy to see why new arrivals are quickly at ease. ... click here to read the full article
